The Igorot Community UK had its Sports Festival 2026 recently. It was a full-circle cultural immersion experience that brought a strong and established group of Filipinos in England who preserve their Igorot heritage with remarkable determination. The event was packed with sportsfest fun and the evening program ran with the Little Mr and Ms Igorot UK Sportsfest 2026 pageant.
According to Mimi Mili, one of the creators of JhermiNATION and Filipino Market Events London who attended the event: "The Igorot Community UK Sports Festival was more than an occasion of sportsmanship and unity. It was far more than a day of friendly competition. It was a homecoming. A declaration and passage from one generation to the next.
It was a proud moment for the parents and tribes to see the little ones showcasing their talents and wit, making sure for the next generation, traditional roots and practices were passed on.
With intermission production of Eskrima or Arnis - a national martial arts and sports form the Philippines, and Igorot dances, the event was truly majestic to be part of.
More than any trophy or podium, the spirit of the day captured the Igorot community in the United Kingdom not merely surviving in the diaspora - thus is active and lovingly thriving. They understand that identity is not inherited automatically. It must be shown, sung, cooked, danced, and handed over with deliberate care.
The mountains of Cordillera may be thousands of miles away, but on this particular hot British afternoon, they felt very close."
